What the map tells you about each one

The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.

Abu Dhabi

The federal capital is a city within the much larger Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Its urban area extends over islands and the mainland.

Dubai

The marker represents the historic creek-side city centre, rather than the entire modern urban area or the Burj Khalifa district.

Sharjah

Sharjah city is the emirate’s capital, known for museums and heritage quarters. Other parts of the emirate lie inland and on the east coast.

Ajman

Ajman city occupies the coastal part of the emirate. Manama and Masfout are separate inland territories of the same emirate.

Umm Al Quwain

The old city stands beside a lagoon and mangrove islands. Its emirate also extends inland towards Falaj Al Mualla.

Ras Al Khaimah

The city lies near the historic Julfar trading landscape, where coastal settlement, pearling and overseas connections shaped local life.

Fujairah

Fujairah city is the capital of its emirate. Its fort and nearby older settlement contrast with the modern port and urban districts.

Al Ain

Al Ain belongs to Abu Dhabi emirate and adjoins Oman’s Al Buraimi. Its oases and archaeological areas form a serial World Heritage property.

Hatta

Hatta is part of Dubai emirate despite being separated from its main coastal territory. Mountain settlement and water storage shape its landscape.

Khor Fakkan

Khor Fakkan is a Sharjah territory on the Gulf of Oman, with a natural bay and a major container port.

Kalba

Kalba belongs to Sharjah. The marker represents the older town near its fort, north of the coastal creek and mangrove habitats.

Dibba Al Fujairah

Dibba Al Fujairah is the Fujairah part of the wider Dibba area. Nearby Dibba Al Hisn belongs to Sharjah, while Dibba Al Baya belongs to Oman.

Dibba Al Hisn

This compact coastal town belongs to Sharjah. The map distinguishes it from neighbouring Dibba Al Fujairah and Oman’s Dibba Al Baya.

Al Dhaid

Al Dhaid is an oasis and agricultural centre in Sharjah’s central region, on routes between the west coast and the Hajar Mountains.

Mleiha

Mleiha connects desert landscapes with archaeology from several periods. The nearby Faya Palaeolandscape records much earlier human occupation.

Masfout

Masfout is a mountain territory of Ajman near Oman. It must not be mistaken for part of Dubai simply because Hatta is nearby.

Manama

This Manama is an Ajman town in the UAE, distinct from Bahrain’s capital of the same name. Its pin uses Ajman’s published city-area reference point.

Madinat Zayed

Madinat Zayed is an administrative and service centre in Al Dhafra. It is separate from Abu Dhabi’s city neighbourhood of the same name.

Liwa (Mezaira’a)

The marker represents Mezaira’a within Liwa’s long arc of oasis settlements. Liwa borders the dunes of the Empty Quarter.

Al Ruwais

Al Ruwais is a town and industrial centre in Al Dhafra, associated with refining and petrochemicals.
