What the map tells you about each one

The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.

Seoul, Gangwon and Chungcheong9 on the map

Cheongju: Cheongju is the capital of North Chungcheong. The Jikji Buddhist text was printed at its Heungdeoksa temple in 1377 using movable metal type.
Chuncheon: Chuncheon is the capital of Gangwon. Reservoirs along the Bukhan, or North Han, surround the city.
Daejeon: Daejeon is a railway hub and a centre of scientific research. KAIST and many government research institutes are based in its Daedeok district.
Gangneung: Gangneung hosted the ice events of the 2018 Winter Olympics. The Taebaek Mountains separate it from the inland capital region.
Incheon: Incheon is a port city and the location of South Korea’s main international airport. Its offshore islands extend toward the maritime border area.
Seoul: Seoul’s historic palaces sit north of the Han. The city is the centre of a wider capital region that also includes Incheon and Gyeonggi.
Sokcho: Sokcho is a coastal gateway to Seoraksan National Park. Mountains rise close behind the city’s harbour and beaches.
Suwon: Suwon is the provincial capital of Gyeonggi. Its Hwaseong Fortress, built from 1794 to 1796, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Wonju: Wonju lies inland near Chiaksan National Park. It connects Gangwon’s mountain valleys with routes toward the capital region.

Jeolla and Jeju7 on the map

Gunsan: Gunsan is a port on the Yellow Sea. Its historic streets preserve buildings from its development as a trading port.
Gwangju: Gwangju was the centre of the May 1980 uprising against military rule. Since July 2026 its former metropolitan territory has been part of Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City.
Iksan: Iksan contains Baekje-era archaeological sites. Mireuksa and Wanggung-ri form part of the UNESCO-listed Baekje Historic Areas.
Jeju: Jeju City is the island’s principal air gateway. Hallasan rises to the south, while the coast faces the mainland across the Jeju Strait.
Jeonju: Jeonju is known for its hanok village and its regional version of bibimbap. It was designated a UNESCO City of Gastronomy in 2012.
Mokpo: Mokpo is a gateway to the southwestern islands. Its harbour and rail connections made it an important port city.
Yeosu: Yeosu was a naval base associated with Admiral Yi Sun-sin. It hosted Expo 2012, whose theme focused on oceans and coasts.

Andong: Andong is associated with Confucian scholarship and traditional village culture. Nearby Hahoe Village is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Busan: Busan is known for its port and coastal neighbourhoods. The Busan International Film Festival began in 1996.
Changwon: Changwon is the provincial capital of South Gyeongsang. It merged with neighbouring Masan and Jinhae in 2010.
Daegu: Daegu developed as a textile centre. Its surrounding mountains help trap summer heat in the basin.
Gyeongju: Gyeongju was the capital of Silla. Royal burial mounds remain in the city, with Bulguksa and Seokguram nearby.
Pohang: Pohang is a major steelmaking centre. POSCO’s first blast furnace there began operating in 1973.
Ulsan: Ulsan’s economy includes major shipyards and car factories. The Taehwa River links the city to the east coast.

How this one works

How many cities are on the map?

23. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 8 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.

What is a round?

A run of 8 questions, and 6 right passes it. 3 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the South Korea page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.

Can I start the map over?

Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 23 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of South Korea keep their progress.

Do I need an account?

No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.

What happens when I get one wrong?

The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
