What the map tells you about each one
The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.
- Niamey
- The national capital is the centre of government and a major commercial and cultural city on the Niger River.
- Dosso
- Dosso is a regional centre in the southwest, connecting farming districts and routes toward Benin and Nigeria.
- Tillabéri
- Tillabéri is a regional capital on the river corridor toward Mali. The city and the much larger region share a name.
- Maradi
- Maradi is a major commercial centre close to Nigeria, with strong farming and cross-border trading connections.
- Zinder
- Zinder was the colonial capital before Niamey. Its older quarters and Sultan’s Palace recall the Damagaram sultanate.
- Tahoua
- Tahoua connects agricultural and pastoral areas in the Sahel. It is the capital of the region of the same name.
- Agadez
- Agadez is a historic Saharan trading city. Its earthen historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage property.
- Arlit
- Arlit developed around uranium mining. Its location helps connect the northern desert with Niger’s resource economy.
- Diffa
- Diffa is a regional capital in the Lake Chad basin, near the Komadougou Yobe river corridor.
- N’Guigmi
- N’Guigmi is a settlement on the northeastern side of Niger’s Lake Chad region. Seasonal water conditions change across the wider basin.
- Bilma
- Bilma is an oasis town associated with salt production and historic caravan exchange across the Ténéré.
- Gaya
- Gaya is a border trading town near the Niger River. It is distinct from places with the same name elsewhere in West Africa.

12. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 6 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.
What is a round?
A run of 6 questions, and 5 right passes it. 2 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Niger page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.
Can I start the map over?
Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 12 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Niger keep their progress.
Do I need an account?
