What the map tells you about each one

The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.

La Paz: La Paz is the national seat of government and capital of La Paz department. Sucre remains Bolivia’s constitutional capital.
El Alto: El Alto is a separate city above La Paz, not a department. The two cities are linked by roads and the Mi Teleférico cable-car network.
Cochabamba: Cochabamba is the capital of its namesake department. Its valley sits between the Altiplano and the eastern lowlands.
Santa Cruz de la Sierra: Santa Cruz de la Sierra is the capital of Santa Cruz department. Its lowland setting differs sharply from the high elevations of La Paz and Potosí.
Sucre: Sucre is Bolivia’s constitutional capital and the capital of Chuquisaca. Its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Oruro: Oruro is its department’s capital. The city’s carnival brings together music, dance and Andean and Catholic traditions.
Potosí: Potosí is the capital of Potosí department. Colonial silver mining made the city a major centre of the Spanish imperial economy.
Tarija: Tarija is its department’s capital. The surrounding valleys are known for vineyards and distinctive regional food and music.
Trinidad: Trinidad is the capital of Beni. It lies in the seasonally flooded Llanos de Moxos, east of the main Andean range.
Cobija: Cobija is the capital of Pando. The Acre River separates it from neighbouring Brazilian settlements.
Uyuni: Uyuni is a railway town beside the salt-flat region. The settlement and the much larger salar are different places.
Tupiza: Tupiza lies in a valley surrounded by eroded red-rock landscapes. It stands north of the border town of Villazón.
Villazón: Villazón faces La Quiaca in Argentina. It belongs to Potosí department, west of Tarija’s border settlements.
Yacuiba: Yacuiba is in Tarija department’s Gran Chaco. It faces Salvador Mazza across the international border.
Bermejo: Bermejo city stands beside the river of the same name. Its border location connects southern Bolivia with Argentina.
Camiri: Camiri lies in Bolivia’s Chaco region. Its history is closely linked with the petroleum industry and Guaraní territories.
Montero: Montero is a lowland city in Santa Cruz department. Farming and agroindustry connect it with the surrounding northern plains.
Samaipata: Samaipata town lies near the UNESCO-listed archaeological site El Fuerte. The town pin marks the settlement rather than the archaeological site.
San José de Chiquitos: San José is one of the Jesuit mission settlements of Chiquitos. It lies in the eastern department of Santa Cruz.
San Ignacio de Velasco: This Chiquitano town is distinct from San Ignacio de Moxos in Beni. Not every mission settlement is part of the UNESCO-inscribed group.
Riberalta: Riberalta lies beside the Beni River near its meeting with the Madre de Dios. It belongs to Beni rather than neighbouring Pando.
Guayaramerín: Guayaramerín is in Beni department. Guajará-Mirim lies across the river in Brazil.
Rurrenabaque: Rurrenabaque belongs to Beni department. San Buenaventura, across the river, belongs to La Paz; the town connects with surrounding forest and wetland landscapes.
Copacabana: Copacabana is a Bolivian lakeside town in La Paz department. It is separate from the Rio de Janeiro neighbourhood with the same name.

How many cities and towns are on the map?

24. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 8 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.

What is a round?

A run of 8 questions, and 6 right passes it. 3 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Bolivia page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.

Can I start the map over?

Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 24 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Bolivia keep their progress.

Do I need an account?

No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.

What happens when I get one wrong?

The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
