Explore Tajikistan from Dushanbe and Khujand to ancient Panjakent, the Fann Mountains and the Pamirs. Learn five administrative areas, place sixteen cities and sixteen sights, follow four waters and discover ten illustrated topics, then begin Tajik.
Pamir heights, Fann Mountain lakes and cultivated valleys in landlocked Central Asia.
Distinguish Sughd, Khatlon, autonomous Gorno-Badakhshan, the centrally administered districts and separate Dushanbe. Place sixteen cities and towns, then follow the Panj, Syr Darya and Zarafshan and find Kayrakkum Reservoir. Zoom in for Dushanbe and northern exclaves. Areas: geoBoundaries, OpenStreetMap/Wambacher, ODbL 1.0, generalised 2017 reference geometry. It predates later Dushanbe expansion and the 2025 Kyrgyz border agreement. Waters: Natural Earth 5.1.2, public domain; river reaches retain a small border margin. City coordinates are curated.
This early settlement preserves evidence of farming, craft production and exchange in the fourth and third millennia BCE. It is a separate World Heritage property from the later Silk Roads sites around Panjakent.
Locate sixteen places across Tajikistan, from Dushanbe and the Zarafshan valley to Khatlon and the high Pamirs. Essential marks introductory learning priorities; travel access, permits and conditions require separate checks. These priorities organise geographical learning across the country. Mountain and reserve pins are reference locations, not trailheads or approved visitor entrances. Select a pin to read about a place, then play the map and find them all.
