Explore Kosovo from Pristina and Prizren to the Rugova gorge, medieval monasteries and the Sharr Mountains. Place sixteen cities and towns, discover sixteen sights, read ten illustrated topics and begin Albanian or Serbian.
Kosovo is landlocked in southeastern Europe, bordered by Albania, Montenegro, Serbia and North Macedonia. The Kosovo Plain lies in the east, while a broad western basin is often called Dukagjin in Albanian and Metohija in Serbian. These names carry different historical and cultural associations. Pristina, also written Prishtina or Priลกtina, is the capital; Prizren sits below the southern mountains, and Peja, also called Peฤ, stands at the mouth of Rugova gorge.
Place sixteen cities and towns in two rounds across the plains and mountain foothills. These are settlement pins, separate from municipal boundaries. The Mitrovica pin marks the city centre south of the Ibar; North Mitrovica is a distinct municipality.
The hilltop fortress overlooks the Prizren Bistrica and the old town. Its successive building phases introduce the strategic importance of the valley.
Discover sixteen places across Kosovo: medieval religious art, Ottoman quarters, ancient ruins, modern architecture and mountain landscapes. The first eight are starting points for learning; priorities are editorial, and visiting arrangements vary. Essential is our shortlist for a first trip, and worth a detour goes further. Select a pin to read about a place, then play the map and find them all.
Hello, please, thank you, sorry: the ten openers everything else builds on.
When you have had your fill of Kosovo, the countries marked guide have a page like this one, and every other has maps of its own.
