The five regioner, which have run Denmark since the fourteen counties were abolished at the start of 2007. Two of them are on Jutland, one is Jutland and Funen together, and the two on Zealand split it between the capital and everything else.

What the map tells you about each one
The paragraph the game shows when you find a place, for all 5 of the ones written by hand. Reading them first is not cheating.
- Hovedstaden
- Hovedstaden is the smallest of the five in area and much the largest in population, with about 1.9 million people, and it is the only one in two pieces: Copenhagen and northern Zealand, and then Bornholm, some 150 kilometers east of the rest of it. Its administration sits in Hillerød rather than in Copenhagen. The region runs the hospitals, which is most of what a Danish region does; it cannot levy a tax of its own, and the 98 municipalities do the rest.
- Sjælland
- Region Sjælland covers everything on Zealand that is not the capital region, along with Lolland, Falster and Møn, and about 840,000 people live in it. Its seat is Sorø, a town of some 7,000, which is a Danish habit: three of the five regions are run from somewhere small on purpose. Roskilde, at the head of its own fjord, was the capital of Denmark until the fifteenth century, and forty or so Danish monarchs are buried in its cathedral.
- Syddanmark
- Southern Denmark is the only region on both sides of a strait: the southern third of Jutland and the whole of Funen, about 1.2 million people, run from Vejle. The border it sits against was drawn by a vote. Northern Schleswig went to Prussia with the rest of the duchies in 1864 and came back after the plebiscite of 1920, in which the northern zone chose Denmark and the southern zone chose Germany, which is why the line runs where it does and not along any river.
- Midtjylland
- Central Jutland reaches from one coast to the other and holds about 1.35 million people, more than any region but the capital. Aarhus, on its eastern bay, is the second city of Denmark and was a Viking trading place called Aros before it was anything else. The region is also where the country runs out of height: Møllehøj, near Skanderborg, is the highest natural point in Denmark at about 171 meters, and it took a survey in 2005 to settle which of three neighboring hills it was.
- Nordjylland
- North Jutland is the smallest region by population, at about 590,000, and it is run from Aalborg on the Limfjord. Everything north of that water is technically an island, and has been since a storm broke the Agger isthmus in 1825 and opened the fjord to the North Sea again. At Grenen, the sandspit past Skagen at the very top, the Skagerrak and the Kattegat meet, and on a calm day you can watch the two sets of waves run into each other.
How this one works
How many regions are on the map?
5. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 5 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.
What is a round?
5 of them, and 4 right passes it. One round covers the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Denmark page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. Nothing you have banked is ever asked again while anything is still unfound, so the last round of the map is however many are left, and three quarters of that passes it.
Can I start the map over?
Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 5 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Denmark keep their progress.
Do I need an account?
No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.
What happens when I get one wrong?
The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
