Pakistani provinces and territories, found on the map

Distinguish the four provinces, Islamabad Capital Territory, and the separately administered territories of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Zoom in for Islamabad. Reference boundaries do not resolve the Kashmir dispute or show current military control.

7 to find, 7 a run.

One round, and 6 of 7 passes the whole map.

Every one on the map

Every place listed below can be asked in this game. Places you find in a passed round drop out of your remaining pool.

  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir
  • Balochistan
  • Gilgit-Baltistan
  • Islamabad Capital Territory
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • Punjab
  • Sindh

What the map tells you about each one

The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.

Balochistan
Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province by area. Quetta lies inland on its plateau; the Makran coast includes Gwadar.
Sindh
The Indus crosses Sindh on its way to the Arabian Sea. Karachi is the provincial capital, while Mohenjo-daro preserves a much earlier urban history.
Punjab
Punjab’s name refers to five rivers in the wider historical region. Lahore is the provincial capital; the province also contains Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Peshawar is the provincial capital. The province includes the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas, merged into it in 2018, as well as the Swat and Chitral valleys.
Islamabad Capital Territory
Zoom in near Rawalpindi to find the federal capital territory. It contains Islamabad and is distinct from Punjab, even though the two cities form a closely connected urban area.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir
Muzaffarabad is its administrative capital. Pakistan administers this territory within the disputed Kashmir region; it is not one of Pakistan’s four provinces. Reference lines do not settle sovereignty or depict current military control.
Gilgit-Baltistan
Gilgit and Skardu are important centres in this mountain territory. Pakistan administers Gilgit-Baltistan within the disputed Kashmir region. Its status differs from the four provinces, and the reference outline does not settle competing claims or show current military control.

How this one works

How many provinces and territories are on the map?

7. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 7 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.

What is a round?

A run of 7 questions, and 6 right passes it. One round covers the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Pakistan page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.

Can I start the map over?

Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 7 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Pakistan keep their progress.

Do I need an account?

No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.

What happens when I get one wrong?

The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
