What the map tells you about each one
The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.
- Ilocos Region
- Ilocos follows Luzon’s western shore through Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan. Laoag and Vigan connect its northern historic towns; the Lingayen Gulf lies farther south.
- Cagayan Valley
- The Cagayan River runs north through the mainland valley. The region also includes the island province of Batanes and the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.
- Central Luzon
- Central Luzon includes Pampanga’s agricultural plain, Bataan and Zambales on the west, and Aurora on the Pacific side. Angeles and Olongapo are cities within this region.
- CALABARZON
- Its name combines Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon. The region surrounds much of Laguna de Bay and contains Taal Lake; it is separate from the National Capital Region.
- MIMAROPA
- MIMAROPA links two Mindoro provinces with Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan. Puerto Princesa and El Nido lie on Palawan, while Calapan is on northeastern Mindoro.
- Bicol Region
- Bicol occupies the long southeastern end of Luzon. Legazpi lies below Mayon in Albay; Naga is in Camarines Sur. Masbate and Catanduanes extend the region beyond the mainland.
- Western Visayas
- Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Iloilo occupy Panay, with Guimaras nearby. Boracay belongs to Aklan. Negros Occidental left this regional grouping when the Negros Island Region was restored in 2024.
- Negros Island Region
- The region was restored in 2024 and comprises Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, including Bacolod. Bacolod and Dumaguete connect opposite coasts of Negros.
- Central Visayas
- Central Visayas now comprises Cebu and Bohol and their associated cities. Negros Oriental and Siquijor belong to the restored Negros Island Region, rather than this region.
- Eastern Visayas
- Samar faces the Philippine Sea, while Leyte lies to its southwest. Tacloban is on Leyte beside San Juanico Strait, which separates Leyte from Samar.
- Zamboanga Peninsula
- The three Zamboanga provinces and associated cities form the mainland part of Region IX. Sulu was officially transferred here in July 2025; its islands are separate from the peninsula.
- Northern Mindanao
- Cagayan de Oro and Iligan connect coastal settlements with inland Bukidnon. Camiguin is an island province off the coast; Lanao del Norte belongs here, while Lanao del Sur belongs to Bangsamoro.
- Davao Region
- Davao City faces the gulf, while the region stretches east to the Pacific coast and south through Davao Occidental. Davao de Oro was formerly named Compostela Valley.
- SOCCSKSARGEN
- The regional name combines its four provinces with General Santos. Cotabato province is distinct from Cotabato City, which belongs to Bangsamoro, as does the Special Geographic Area.
- Caraga
- The Agusan and Surigao provinces and Dinagat Islands form Caraga. Butuan lies by the Agusan River, while Siargao belongs to Surigao del Norte. Caraga is also called Region XIII.
- National Capital Region
- Metro Manila includes Manila, Quezon City, Makati and other local governments. Manila is the national capital; the region is not a province and is much smaller than the neighbouring regions.
- Cordillera Administrative Region
- The Cordillera includes Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province, with Baguio. Batad’s rice terraces are in Ifugao. It is an administrative region rather than an autonomous government.
- Bangsamoro
- The autonomous region includes Lanao del Sur, two Maguindanao provinces, most of Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, Cotabato City and the Special Geographic Area. Sulu now belongs to Zamboanga Peninsula; Isabela City belongs to Region IX.
How this one works
How many regions are on the map?
18. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 8 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.
What is a round?
A run of 8 questions, and 6 right passes it. 3 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Philippines page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.
Can I start the map over?
Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 18 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of the Philippines keep their progress.
Do I need an account?
No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.
What happens when I get one wrong?
The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
