What the map tells you about each one
The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.
- Sagaing
- Sagaing Region stretches from the Indian frontier to the city of Sagaing near Mandalay. The Chindwin crosses much of its territory.
- Bago
- Bago is one region. The humanitarian source separates east and west for operational use; this map dissolves them into a single answer.
- Magway
- The Ayeyarwady crosses Magway Region. Magway city, Pakokku and the ancient Pyu site of Beikthano belong to this area.
- Mandalay
- Mandalay Region includes Mandalay city and Bagan. Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory is a separate area to its south, not part of this answer.
- Tanintharyi
- Dawei and Myeik are coastal cities of Tanintharyi. The region includes the Myeik Archipelago, whose islands extend along the southern coast.
- Yangon
- Yangon Region contains the former capital and its surrounding settlements. The national capital is now Nay Pyi Taw.
- Ayeyarwady
- Pathein is a major city of this delta region. The region and river share a name, but they are different kinds of map answer.
- Kachin
- Myitkyina and Indawgyi Lake lie in Kachin State. The upper Ayeyarwady forms from the Mali and N’mai rivers north of Myitkyina.
- Kayah
- Loikaw is the principal city of Kayah State, also associated with the name Karenni. The state name does not describe one uniform language community.
- Kayin
- Hpa-an lies beside the Thanlwin in Kayin State. Kayin is also commonly written Karen, but the administrative boundary is not an exclusive ethnic homeland.
- Chin
- Hakha is a major town in Chin State. Mountain terrain and many distinct community languages are part of this western region’s geography.
- Mon
- Mawlamyine is a major city of Mon State near the Thanlwin estuary. Mon is also the name of a distinct Austroasiatic language.
- Rakhine
- Sittwe and Mrauk U belong to Rakhine State. Its coast and mountain barrier connect it with a history different from the central Ayeyarwady valley.
- Shan
- Shan is one state. The humanitarian source’s north, south and east divisions are dissolved here. Taunggyi, Lashio and Kengtung mark different parts of it.
- Nay Pyi Taw
- The national capital has its own union territory. It is the fifteenth first-level area, alongside seven states and seven regions. Zoom in to separate it from Mandalay.
How this one works
How many administrative areas are on the map?
15. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 8 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.
What is a round?
A run of 8 questions, and 6 right passes it. 2 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Myanmar page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.
Can I start the map over?
Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 15 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Myanmar keep their progress.
Do I need an account?
No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.
What happens when I get one wrong?
The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
