What the map tells you about each one

The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.

Capital District
The district contains Libertador municipality. The wider Caracas urban area also extends east into Miranda.
Anzoátegui
Barcelona is the state capital. Anzoátegui connects the northeastern coast with plains and oil-producing areas inland.
Apure
San Fernando de Apure stands beside the Apure River. The state reaches the Orinoco in the east and shares the Llanos with Colombia.
Aragua
Maracay is the capital. Aragua extends from Caribbean coastal mountains through the Lake Valencia basin towards the central plains.
Barinas
Barinas city stands near the Andean foothills. Rivers descend from the mountains into the Llanos and the Apure basin.
Bolívar
Ciudad Bolívar is the capital; Ciudad Guayana lies at the Caroní–Orinoco meeting. Canaima and the Gran Sabana lie farther south.
Carabobo
Valencia is a major industrial city. Puerto Cabello connects Carabobo’s interior with the Caribbean coast.
Cojedes
San Carlos is the capital. Cojedes lies where the northern hills descend into the Llanos and rivers run towards the Orinoco basin.
Falcón
Coro and its port La Vela are UNESCO-listed. The dry Paraguaná Peninsula projects north into the Caribbean.
Guárico
San Juan de los Morros is the capital. Much of Guárico belongs to the Llanos, with rivers draining towards the Apure and Orinoco.
Lara
Barquisimeto is the capital. Lara connects western highlands, dry valleys and routes between the Andes and the northern coast.
Mérida
Mérida city lies in an Andean valley. The Sierra Nevada includes Pico Bolívar, Venezuela’s highest mountain.
Miranda
Los Teques is the state capital. Eastern Caracas, the Tuy valleys and the Caribbean-facing Barlovento region all lie in Miranda.
Monagas
Maturín is the capital. The state includes eastern plains and oil-producing areas, with the Caripe highlands in the north.
Nueva Esparta
La Asunción is the state capital on Margarita. Porlamar is a major commercial city on the island’s southeastern side.
Portuguesa
Guanare is the capital. Portuguesa’s plains are an important farming area, while its northwest reaches the Andean foothills.
Sucre
Cumaná faces the Gulf of Cariaco. Sucre includes the Araya and Paria peninsulas, extending towards Trinidad in the east.
Táchira
San Cristóbal is the capital. Border routes near San Antonio del Táchira connect the state with Colombia’s Cúcuta area.
Trujillo
Trujillo is the capital, while Valera is another important city. The state links Andean slopes with lowlands towards Lake Maracaibo.
Yaracuy
San Felipe stands in the Yaracuy valley. Mountain ranges and agricultural land connect the west-central interior with the coast.
Zulia
Maracaibo is the capital. Zulia includes oil-producing shores, the Catatumbo basin and part of the Guajira Peninsula.
Federal Dependencies
These federally administered islands are separate from Nueva Esparta state. The map groups their islands under a single answer; zoom in.
La Guaira
The state was formerly named Vargas. La Guaira’s port and the airport at Maiquetía connect the capital region with the outside world.
Delta Amacuro
The Orinoco divides into channels before reaching the Atlantic. Warao communities have deep connections with these waterways and wetlands.
Amazonas
The upper Orinoco, Ventuari and Casiquiare cross this forest region. Its name does not mean that all its rivers drain into the Amazon.

How this one works

How many states, district and island dependencies are on the map?

25. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 8 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.

What is a round?

A run of 8 questions, and 6 right passes it. 4 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Venezuela page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.

Can I start the map over?

Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 25 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Venezuela keep their progress.

Do I need an account?

No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.

What happens when I get one wrong?

The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
