Direction word. When giving directions, Maharashtrians often add hand gestures, which helps enormously in noisy Mumbai streets.
Direction word. In the city, directions are often given using landmarks rather than street names, so listen for "cinema," "temple," or "signal" as reference points.
"Saral ja" literally means "go straight." A simple instruction you will both give and receive frequently when navigating Mumbai's busy lanes.
Mumbai's suburban rail network (the "local train") carries millions daily. It is the city's lifeline. Knowing which line (Central, Western, Harbour) matters as much as the station name.
Used at bus and train counters. For Mumbai locals, you will also need to name your destination. "Ek tikit, [destination name]" is the complete phrase.
