The plural "avete" is correct for addressing a shop as an entity. You can also say "c'è...?" (is there...?) and point to a shelf.
Essential for any large supermarket. Staff are generally happy to point you in the right direction. Follow up with "grazie mille."
Many small shops close for a long lunch, roughly one to four.
Plastic bags cost extra at Italian checkouts, as required by EU rules. Bring a reusable bag (una borsa) to avoid the charge.
