What the map tells you about each one

The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.

Dnipro River
The Dnipro connects northern and central Ukraine with the Black Sea. Only its Ukrainian reaches are shown. The Kakhovka dam was destroyed in 2023; this generalised channel is not a present-day reservoir shoreline.
Dniester River
The Dniester rises in Ukraine’s western mountains, crosses into Moldova and returns to the Ukrainian coast. This map keeps its Ukrainian and shared-border reaches.
Southern Bug River
The Southern Bug rises in west-central Ukraine and reaches the Dnipro-Bug estuary near Mykolaiv. It is a different river from the Western Bug on the Polish border.
Desna River
The Desna enters Ukraine from Russia and flows through Chernihiv before joining the Dnipro near Kyiv. Its Ukrainian reaches are shown here.
Siverskyi Donets River
The Siverskyi Donets is an important river of northeastern Ukraine and a tributary of the Don. The map retains Ukrainian reaches and does not show the full river in Russia.
Prut River
The Prut rises near Hoverla and runs through the western Ukrainian mountains and Chernivtsi before continuing along the Romania-Moldova border.
Danube River
Ukraine reaches the Danube near Reni and Izmail. The river’s delta is shared with Romania. This map shows the selected Ukrainian border reach rather than the whole European river or every delta branch.
Black Sea
The Black Sea borders southern Ukraine, including the Crimean coast. This answer area is cropped to the learning map and follows generalised land outlines; it is not a maritime boundary or a statement about access.
Sea of Azov
The Sea of Azov is a shallow sea between Ukraine and Russia. Its Ukrainian coastline includes eastern Crimea and the Mariupol area. The map shows a learning target rather than maritime claims or military control.

How this one works

How many rivers and seas are on the map?

9. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 8 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.

What is a round?

A run of 8 questions, and 6 right passes it. 2 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Ukraine page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.

Can I start the map over?

Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 9 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Ukraine keep their progress.

Do I need an account?

No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.

What happens when I get one wrong?

The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
