Getting around in Romanian

Toaletă is the standard word. You may also see WC or baie (BAH-yeh), bathroom. In cafes, a small purchase usually grants access; do not hesitate to ask.
Literally "forward" or "ahead". Tot înainte (toht uh-NAH-een-teh) means "straight on, keep going". A common direction in any Romanian city.
The ci makes a ch sound. Pointing and saying aici is universally understood. Chiar aici (kyahr ah-EECH) means "right here" for emphasis.
The main Bucharest station is Gara de Nord (GAH-rah deh NORD). CFR is the national rail company. Trains connect all major cities; the InterRegio is the standard intercity service.
Bilet covers tickets for most transport. For the metro you may ask for a single journey: un bilet dus (oon BEE-let DOOS). For the bus, carduri de transport are increasingly used.
