Meeting people in Kannada
How are you, what is your name, where are you from, I like it: the first five minutes. Play the ten Kannada words against the clock, with a note on how locals really use each one after every answer. All ten are written out below.

Use "nivu" (you, formal/plural) with elders, strangers, or anyone you want to show respect. This is the safe default.
The full polite answer. In casual speech people often just say "chennagidini" or "sari idini."
Returning the question is expected and polite. Raise your intonation slightly to indicate it is a question.
Literally "it became liked by me".
