Meeting people in Czech
How are you, what is your name, where are you from, I like it: the first five minutes. Play the ten Czech words against the clock, with a note on how locals really use each one after every answer. All ten are written out below.

The formal version using "vy" address. Use with strangers, older people, and anyone you don't know well. Czechs take the formal/casual distinction seriously.
The standard positive reply. Czechs are culturally more reserved and may give a more measured answer like "ujde to" (OO-ydeh to, "it's okay, could be worse"). Don't be alarmed by this.
Always polite to return the question. Use "A ty?" (a tih) in casual conversation. A simple courtesy that Czechs appreciate.
