The base number. When counting objects, use একটা (EK-ta, one item). এক on its own is for arithmetic, phone numbers, and addresses.
Two items: দুটা (DU-ta) or দুটো (DU-to). Both forms are correct; -টা and -টো are interchangeable measure words for most objects.
Three items: তিনটা (TIN-ta). Numbers from one to ten are consistent and easy to learn; Bengali numerals follow a predictable pattern.
Twenty is বিশ (BISH), thirty is ত্রিশ (TRISH), a hundred is একশো (EK-sho). Prices in Bangladesh are in taka; round numbers are most common at markets.
