What the map tells you about each one

The paragraph the game shows when you find each one. Reading them first is not cheating.

Tripoli
Tripoli is the national capital. This reference district includes the capital and nearby coastal settlements.
Al Jifarah
Al Jifarah lies on the northwestern coastal plain. It is separate from Tripoli in this district reference map.
Zawiya
Zawiya is a coastal city and the name of its surrounding reference district.
Zuwara
The source calls this district Zwara; it is also known as An Nuqat al Khams. Zuwara city is an important Amazigh-speaking centre.
Nalut
This reference district extends from the Nafusa uplands towards Ghadames. The oasis town and Nalut town are separate settlements.
Al Jabal al Gharbi
The western mountains include the Nafusa highlands. Gharyan and Yafran are among the settlements of this broad reference area.
Al Marqab
Khoms lies beside the Roman archaeological site of Leptis Magna. Al Marqab is also written Al Murgub or Almargeb.
Misrata
Misrata is a major port and commercial city. Bani Walid lies farther inland in this reference district.
Sirte
Sirte connects the western and eastern coastal corridors. The city and the wider district share a name.
Al Wahat
The source labels this area Ejdabia. It includes the oasis settlements of Jalu and Awjila and is often called Al Wahat.
Benghazi
Benghazi is a major eastern city. Its reference district is distinct from the greener uplands farther northeast.
Al Marj
Al Marj lies in the western Jabal al Akhdar landscape. The source writes the district name as Almarj.
Al Jabal al Akhdar
The name means Green Mountain. Higher rainfall supports vegetation that contrasts with the desert interior.
Derna
Derna lies where a wadi reaches the Mediterranean. Reference boundaries do not describe the effects of the 2023 flood or present conditions.
Tobruk
The source uses Tobruk for the district also known as Al Butnan. Tobruk city faces a sheltered harbour.
Al Jufrah
Hun, Waddan and Sokna are oasis settlements in this central district, linking the coast with Fezzan.
Wadi al Shati
Brak is a principal settlement. The district follows an oasis belt rather than a permanently flowing river.
Sabha
Sabha, also written Sebha, is an important urban and transport centre in Fezzan.
Wadi al Hayaa
The source calls this district Ubari. Its oasis belt lies beside the sand sea containing Gaberoun and Mafo.
Ghat
Ghat is associated with Tuareg history and the Tadrart Acacus landscape near the Algerian border.
Murzuq
Murzuq is both an oasis town and a large district. The Murzuq sand sea and Waw an Namus volcanic landscape lie in the southern interior.
Kufra
Kufra is an oasis region in the southeastern Sahara. Al Jawf is its principal settlement; irrigated farming relies on groundwater.

How this one works

How many districts are on the map?

22. Every one of them is on the map, and a run asks 8 of them. Pass a round and the places you found in it drop out of the pool, so the next run is what you have left.

What is a round?

A run of 8 questions, and 6 right passes it. 3 rounds cover the whole map, and the counter at the top of the Libya page counts the ones behind you. Passing is what banks a round's finds: miss the mark and nothing is taken off the map, so every place that round asked about is still there to be asked again. A round is always the places you have not found yet, and when fewer than five are left it is topped up with a few you have found as review, so the last round is never one or two questions. Three quarters of it passes it.

Can I start the map over?

Yes. "Reset this map" under the counter puts all 22 back in the pool and sets the rounds to zero the moment you press it, so the whole map is there to be found again from nothing. It clears this map only; the other maps of Libya keep their progress.

Do I need an account?

No. The game plays in the page, and a guest's progress is kept in their own browser. Signing in carries it between devices and earns XP for a run.

What happens when I get one wrong?

The map names what you actually hit, then lights up the right answer in green and tells you something about the place. Missing one is how most of this map gets learned.
