Turkmenistan learning maps — prepared 20 October 2026 Reproduce: node scripts/build-turkmenistan-maps.mjs [source-directory] Optional source directory contains admin.geojson, rivers.geojson, lakes.geojson. Without it the script downloads the pinned sources below. PROVINCE REFERENCE AREAS geoBoundaries gbOpen TKM ADM1, pinned revision 9469f09: https://media.githubusercontent.com/media/wmgeolab/geoBoundaries/9469f09/releaseData/gbOpen/TKM/ADM1/geoBoundaries-TKM-ADM1.geojson Metadata: https://www.geoboundaries.org/api/current/gbOpen/TKM/ADM1/ Boundary year represented: 2007. Source: geoBoundaries/Wikimedia. Licence reported by geoBoundaries: public domain. The actual pinned GeoJSON contains FIVE province features: Balkan, Ahal, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary. Its metadata advertises six units; the delivered geometry does not contain a separate Ashgabat feature. The generator checks the five ISO codes and retains the original polygon coordinates, normalising names and adding game identifiers. It does not invent an Ashgabat or Arkadag polygon. This is a dated province-footprint learning map, NOT a present administrative survey. Ashgabat and Arkadag have separate city status today. The older Ahal footprint includes their areas. This limitation appears in the map title, description, Ahal answer, country overview and guide scope note. Arkadag also appears on the separate city-centre map. No province is described as a current municipal boundary. WATERS Natural Earth 1:10m, revision ca96624 (5.1.2), public domain: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/ca96624/geojson/ne_10m_rivers_lake_centerlines.geojson https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/ca96624/geojson/ne_10m_lakes.geojson Terms: https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/ Selected rivers: Amu Darya, Atrek, Harirud (labelled Tejen/Hari River). Lines are split against the union of the province reference areas buffered by 2 km, retaining segments whose midpoint is inside. This margin accommodates generalised river and national-boundary geometry without retaining whole foreign rivers. Tiny segments under 0.5 km are omitted. The Sarygamysh outline is retained in full: the lake is shared with Uzbekistan, not wholly Turkmen. It represents generalised reference water extent, not current water levels. The four targets are explicitly a selection; the Murghab and Karakum Canal are discussed in the reading but are not fabricated as map targets. CITY AND SIGHT REFERENCE POINTS Approximate settlement centres and learning locations, not municipal polygons, visitor entrances, trails or a statement about present access. Coordinates were checked against English Wikipedia coordinate fields/wikitext, UNESCO property descriptions and the country reference outline. Original coordinates are independently restated as geographic facts; no Wikipedia prose is reproduced. The city generator includes current Gyzylarbat (formerly Serdar), Kunya-Urgench at approximately 59.152 E / 42.326 N, and separate Arkadag. The Anau note uses former administrative-centre wording rather than an undated capital claim.
