Somaliland country guide — checked 29 October 2026 Scope Worldly uses its retained XS outline from public/countries.geojson. Somaliland is presented separately for learning. This does not settle sovereignty, recognition, eastern territorial claims or present political control. No administrative boundaries, military control lines or travel routes are added. The twelve settlement centres are curated approximate coordinates. Nearby Borama/Baki and Hargeisa sight pins need zooming; coastal pins retain their real location where the generalised outline cuts inland. Water geometry Natural Earth 1:10m geography marine polygons and land, public domain: https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/blob/master/geojson/ne_10m_geography_marine_polys.geojson https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/blob/master/geojson/ne_10m_land.geojson https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/ The complete Gulf of Aden, Bab el Mandeb, Red Sea and Arabian Sea marine features are retained in scripts/somaliland-marine-source.geojson. These are regional context waters, not a claim that all four border Somaliland. The coast mask covers 32E–76E and 2S–31N, encompassing every marine feature. It removes land and islands with a roughly 200-metre offshore margin. Natural Earth’s strait feature contains coastline slivers. Its convex envelope is filled, then land and islands are removed to retain both channels and approaches. The unmodified source is retained for review. Geographic context: https://digitallibrary.un.org/record/857994/files/A_CONF_13_37.pdf https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/archive/archive-management-system/OAS/bin/prd/jquery/seaname/details/62 The strait owns its shape before the gulf and larger seas, preventing answer overlaps. The separately named Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba are not added to the Red Sea answer. Marine limits are generalised learning extents, not physical barriers, navigation boundaries or maritime claims. Outlines are hidden. Water shapes are never cropped to Somaliland, its border or the camera. Rebuild offline with Python 3 and Shapely 2: python3 scripts/build-somaliland-maps.py No downloads, source refreshes or database operations occur during rebuild. No shared continuation overlay is needed: the input already holds full waters. Reviewed wording is applied at read time to preserve lesson/question IDs and progress. Answers are balanced in length within every question, with the correct option within 15% of the mean option length and longest/shortest <= 1.4. Correct positions occur twenty times each. Exact population and pastoralist percentages, a questionable Hargeisa market label, broad culinary claims and an overly precise Laas Geel age range have been replaced. The distinction between the official Somali language and Arabic as the second language is preserved. Recognition by Israel in December 2025 is included as a historical event, not a claim that the wider status dispute is resolved. Photographs Ten existing local photographs are reused. Credits describe historical images, not evidence of current conditions or access. The Laas Geel photograph also supplies the banner.
