Transformations:
Select the mainland, Chongming, Changxing and Hengsha from polygonized coastlines.
Clip district jurisdiction to those land outlines, omitting distant farm exclaves
of Jing’an and Baoshan as well as open-sea areas. Small offshore shoals are omitted.
Repair source polygons, node shared edges, assign overlap faces by documented
district order and simplify the resulting coverage together at 0.00015 degrees.
Round coordinates to six decimal places and choose labels inside each largest part.
Keep mainland district boundaries through inland river channels.
Two learning groups show ten urban districts and six outer districts or islands.
This grouping is editorial and does not change official district status.
Parts of Chongming Island in Jiangsu are outside Chongming district.

Reproduce with scripts/build-shanghai-districts.py using the cited source files.
This educational map is not a survey or an authoritative boundary record.
