Niger guide — editorial and map references Prepared 26 October 2026 Scope This is a geography and culture learning guide, not a travel itinerary. Niger (NE) is distinct from Nigeria (NG). Nigerien refers to Niger. Twelve city/town pins, ten heritage/landscape locations, ten illustrated reading sections, thirty answered reading questions, existing facts rounds and links to the existing general Hausa and French courses. No citizenship course is offered. Geography, history and society https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_Niger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Niger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Niger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerien_cuisine https://www.unfpa.org/data/world-population/NE https://www.worldbank.org/en/country/niger/overview https://www.bceao.int/en/content/presentation-umoa Transition and current conditions https://presidence.ne/pages/refondation The presidency's chronology dates the Refoundation Charter to 26 March 2025. Language roles refer to that charter, not the suspended 2010 constitution. https://www.ecowas.int/withdrawal-of-burkina-faso-republic-of-mali-and-the-republic-of-niger-from-ecowas/ https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/niger The latter was retrieved on 26 October 2026 and advised against all travel. Read it again for current conditions. Historic photos and mapped places do not establish present safety, opening, permission to enter or a navigable route. A broad landscape pin does not describe the exact boundary of a protected property. Reviewed quiz wording Eighty original seed questions are retained in scripts/fixtures/niger-facts-questions.json. Twenty read-time corrections in src/lib/niger-facts-patches.json preserve saved lesson/question IDs. They remove unsupported percentages and rankings, date the suspended constitutional arrangement, distinguish Ajami from Tifinagh, identify Bombino as a guitarist, and identify Sarcosuchus as a crocodyliform rather than a dinosaur. Other changes clarify food descriptions and remove an unsupported claim about the driver who knocked down the Tree of Tenere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcosuchus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombino_(musician) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Niger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_of_T%C3%A9n%C3%A9r%C3%A9 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajami_script Map provenance and limitations National geometry is the Niger feature (ISO_A2=NE) retained from the site's public/countries.geojson, a generalised Natural Earth-derived world map. Natural Earth geometry is public domain: https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/ This is not a new administrative survey, and it shows no regional boundaries. The exact retained input is scripts/niger-outline-source.geojson. City coordinates are curated approximate settlement centres in scripts/niger-map-places.json; GeoJSON uses [longitude, latitude]. Heritage/landscape coordinates are approximate learning points in src/lib/country-sights/niger.json. Town-centre pins are not entrance locations. Lake Chad and other seasonal water extents are not separately mapped. No new third-party photographs were downloaded. The author, licence and source page remain visible in each image credit. Photographs are historical records, not evidence of present access or current conditions. The food photograph is millet on sale, rather than a prepared meal. The politics image depicts the National Assembly building, not an assertion that it currently functions. geography: Dunes between Fachi and Bilma in the Ténéré, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/geography.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fachi-Bilma-D%C3%BCnen.jpg Holger Reineccius, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons history: The Grand Mosque of Agadez, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/history.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1997_277-9A_Agadez_mosque_cropped.jpg Dan Lundberg, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons language: A classroom in Niabéré Bella, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/language.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Niger,_Niab%C3%A9r%C3%A9_Bella_(2),_classroom.jpg NigerTZai, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons culture: Wodaabe participants at the Gerewol festival in In-Gall, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/culture.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wodaabe_during_Gerewol,_Cure_Salee,_In-Gall,_Niger_(15380276990).jpg Alfred Weidinger from Vienna, Austria, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons economy: A market in Dogo, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/economy.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dogo_Niger_marketplace_(4461073366).jpg Joris-Jan van den Boom from Delft, Netherlands, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons politics: The National Assembly in Niamey, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/politics.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Niger,_Niamey,_National_Assembly_(1).jpg Vincent van Zeijst, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons nature: A West African giraffe near Kouré, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/nature.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Giraffe_koure_niger_2006.jpg Roland H. https://www.flickr.com/photos/rolandh/, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons food: Millet sold at a market in N’Gonga, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/food.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Niger,_N%27Gonga_(5),_sale_of_millet_on_market_day.jpg NigerTZai, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons landmarks: The Sultan’s Palace in Zinder, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/landmarks.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Zinder_(6328132791).jpg Roland, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons people: Boulevard de la Jeunesse in Niamey, Niger /images/facts-africa/ne/people.jpg https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Niger,_Niamey,_Boulevard_de_la_Jeunesse_(Rue_YA-23)(1).jpg NigerTZai, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons
