MYANMAR COUNTRY GUIDE — MAP SOURCES AND TRANSFORMATIONS Retrieved and reviewed 19 October 2026. Administrative areas Source: Myanmar Information Management Unit (MIMU), quality assured and published by OCHA Field Information Services / HDX, COD-AB v01. https://data.humdata.org/dataset/cod-ab-mmr Licence: Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 IGO. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/igo/ Credit: MIMU / OCHA / HDX. Adapted for Worldly's generalised learning maps. The downloaded mmr_admin_boundaries.geojson.zip contains 18 ADM1 operational areas. Its features are valid_on 2024-02-15. Bago (East) and Bago (West) are dissolved into Bago Region; Shan (North), Shan (South) and Shan (East) are dissolved into Shan State. Separate Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory is retained. The result is seven states, seven regions and one union territory, not eighteen constitutional states/regions. ISO 3166-2 display keys differ from OCHA p-codes. The eighteen original areas and p-codes are retained in scripts/myanmar-admin-source.geojson. Source metadata and the downloaded archive's SHA-256 are in myanmar-admin-source-metadata.json beside this file. Shared boundaries are simplified together with Shapely 2.1.2 coverage_simplify at 0.002 degrees, preserving the shared edge topology. Islands are retained. Output uses one-microdegree precision to remove redundant vertices and reduce file size; topology is validated after this precision change. No front lines, military control, ethnic territories or travel permissions are drawn. The boundaries, names and designations do not imply official endorsement or acceptance by the United Nations. These maps are not a current border survey. Rivers, seas and surrounding land Source: Natural Earth 1:10m vector data, downloaded 19 October 2026. https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/tree/master/geojson Files: ne_10m_rivers_lake_centerlines.geojson, ne_10m_geography_marine_polys.geojson, ne_10m_admin_1_states_provinces.geojson. Licence: public domain. https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/ Selected raw water geometries are retained in scripts/myanmar-water-source.geojson. Ayeyarwady combines the source's Ayeyarwady and Irrawaddy Delta features. The source's Salween is displayed as Thanlwin (Salween), Sittong as Sittaung, and Mytinge as Myitnge. Chindwin and Kaladan retain their source names. Rivers are clipped to Myanmar land with a 0.03-degree margin for generalisation; line fragments shorter than 0.025 degrees are removed. No connecting lines are invented across gaps. These are selected river reaches, not complete networks, navigation channels or flood-risk maps. Inle and Indawgyi are sights, not water game answer polygons; no approximate lake shapes have been invented. The Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea are clipped to [91,9,102,29] and cut away from Myanmar and neighbouring land with a 0.003-degree coastal margin. Surrounding land is a dissolved, clipped and 0.002-degree simplified Natural Earth extract in scripts/myanmar-context-source.geojson. Marine answers identify waters, not territorial seas, exclusive economic zones or sovereignty claims. Cities and heritage Twenty-four city coordinates are curated WGS84 [longitude, latitude] positions. Every administrative area has at least one city, and markers are checked against their assigned area. Bagan's city marker locates the historic settlement area. The full inventory, geographic clues and teaching notes are in scripts/myanmar-map-places.json. Fourteen sight pins were checked against Wikipedia REST summary coordinates on 19 October 2026. Halin and Sri Ksetra use UNESCO's Pyu Ancient Cities component coordinates, also checked against the reference administrative geometry. The Myeik Archipelago pin is representative offshore and does not identify a landing point. Bagan, Ananda and Shwezigon are not separate World Heritage inscriptions; the Pyu cities form one serial property. https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1444/maps/ https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1588/ Rebuild from the repository root: python3 scripts/build-myanmar-maps.py Requires Python 3 and Shapely 2.1.2. The checked-in extracts make rebuilding independent of network access. Preview cards read the same files as the games.
