Linked Wikipedia articles provide further introductory reading. Quiz review All eighty original seed prompts are retained as lookup keys in src/lib/malta-facts-patches.json; reviewed wording is applied at read time. The database, seed scripts, lesson IDs and progress records are unchanged. Corrections include Siculo-Arabic origins, British control versus recognition, non-exclusive temple-age comparisons, the Order versus the republic, the mixed legal system, spring-hunting claims, and same-sex marriage chronology. Unsupported GDP, religion and population percentages are replaced with stable, scoped questions. Options in each question differ by at most twelve characters and have a maximum/minimum character ratio of 1.7. Correct positions are balanced across the bank. The UI may shuffle the options again when playing. Maps Coordinates use [longitude, latitude]. Settlement and sight pins are curated representative locations rather than entrances, legal centroids or routes. Rabat on Malta and Victoria/Rabat on Gozo are separate targets. Mġarr Harbour on Gozo is distinguished from Mġarr village on Malta. No administrative-region boundaries or maritime claims are implied by these learning maps. Island/harbour reference outline: geoBoundaries gbOpen Malta ADM0, boundaryID MLT-ADM0-38034468, source geoBoundaries / Wikimedia Commons, reference year 2010, public domain. This historical outline is generalised; later coastal construction and present harbour works may differ. https://www.geoboundaries.org/api/current/gbOpen/MLT/ADM0/ https://github.com/wmgeolab/geoBoundaries/blob/9469f09/releaseData/gbOpen/MLT/ADM0/geoBoundaries-MLT-ADM0.geojson Mediterranean extent and offshore land mask: Natural Earth 1:10m marine polygons and land, public domain, pinned snapshot: https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/tree/ca96624a56bd078437bca8184e78163e5039ad19/geojson https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/ The sea basin is the union of the Mediterranean and its named sub-seas, including the Alboran, Balearic, Ligurian, Tyrrhenian, Adriatic, Ionian and Aegean seas, Sea of Crete, Gulf of Lion, Gulf of Gabès, Gulf of Sidra and Strait of Gibraltar. It reaches beyond Malta to Gibraltar and the Levant; it is not cropped at the country border or opening camera. The coarse land mask is replaced locally by Malta's finer reference coastline. Local bay/channel envelopes are curated between coastal headlands, subtract island land and include inner harbour branches. Offshore envelope edges are generalised teaching limits, not physical walls. North and South Comino channels are separate, as are Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour. Local targets take priority over the wider sea so every answer is selectable. Artificial marine outlines are hidden and zoom-out remains enabled. Offline snapshot: scripts/malta-water-source.geojson. Rebuild pins, names and whole waters: python3 scripts/build-malta-map.py The builder requires Shapely 2; production builds do not need Python. Images Eleven distinct local images retain Commons attribution and licence metadata in public/images/country-guides/malta/*.source.json. The geography image is an ESA satellite view. The language image is a distribution map. The nature image shows Dingli village and its landscape, rather than claiming a view of the cliff face. The fishing-boat photograph dates from 1985. The Valletta and port photos are reference views, not a record of current construction. Source links, creator credits and licences appear beside each image in the UI.
