Libya learning maps — source review, 23 October 2026 DISTRICTS Twenty-two humanitarian reference districts, represented year 2018. The dataset also has three larger areas at ADM1; its twenty-two districts are at ADM2. Boundaries are generalised by 0.002 degrees. They do not show political or military control. Source aliases: Tobruk = Al Butnan; Ejdabia = Al Wahat; Zwara = Zuwara / An Nuqat al Khams; Ubari = Wadi al Hayaa; Sebha = Sabha; Sirt = Sirte; Almargeb = Al Marqab; Aljfara = Al Jifarah; Azzawya = Zawiya. Map codes are stable learning identifiers based on familiar district codes. CITIES Twenty-four curated city/oasis centres in WGS84 longitude, latitude. Pins retain real city locations, with a small tolerance for generalised coastal boundaries. They are not entrances, routes or present access advice. SEAS Natural Earth 1:10m marine polygons and land, public domain. https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/ https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/tree/master/geojson ne_10m_geography_marine_polys.geojson; ne_10m_land.geojson The full Mediterranean includes its Alboran, Balearic, Ligurian, Tyrrhenian, Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean and Cretan waters, the Gulf of Lion, the Strait of Gibraltar and Dardanelles, reaching the connection with the separate Sea of Marmara. The Black Sea is excluded. The gulfs of Sidra and Gabes are separately selectable and removed from the larger answer polygon so they cannot be hidden beneath it. Islands and land are subtracted. No sea is cropped to Libya, a camera box or a national maritime claim. The Gulf of Gabes lies on the neighbouring Tunisian coast. The camera opens on Libya; panning and zooming out follow the larger water geography. Offshore answer edges are hidden because these are not physical walls. Complete mapped shorelines are retained, including separate crater lakes. Small lakes require close zooming; they are not artificially inflated. Shorelines are reference snapshots, not measurements of current levels. Libya has no permanent natural rivers. The Great Man-Made River is a groundwater pipeline network and is not drawn as a natural watercourse. REBUILD python3 scripts/build-libya-maps.py Reads scripts/libya-map-source.geojson without network access. The source snapshot retains original source names, IDs and OSM way IDs. The global continuation pass is unnecessary: these are already full waters.
