Liberia country guide — editorial, photograph and map references Prepared 29 October 2026 Scope Three map games: fifteen counties in two rounds, sixteen cities and towns in two rounds of eight, and seven rivers plus Lake Piso in one round. Ten heritage and landscape locations, ten illustrated topics, thirty answered reading questions and the existing eighty facts questions. No database seed or schema change is needed. English is official. Liberian English and community languages are discussed; no unimplemented language or citizenship course is offered. Natural Earth is public domain: https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/ The retained input is scripts/liberia-outline-source.geojson. Settlement coordinates and descriptions are curated in scripts/liberia-map-places.json. Coordinates use longitude, latitude; city pins are approximate settlement centres. Landscape pins are representative locations, not entrances or park boundaries. The county game draws the fifteen first-level administrative areas; the waters game draws mapped river courses and the Lake Piso lagoon. No travel routes or protected-area boundaries are drawn. Generalized coastline geometry puts the central Monrovia point about 0.80 km outside the polygon and Buchanan about 0.06 km outside. Preserve their real locations; the guide check bounds these two named exceptions. Estuary and coastal sight pins can likewise sit just outside the land outline. Rebuild offline: node scripts/build-liberia-map.mjs Counties All fifteen counties are retained from Natural Earth 1:10m admin-1 geometry: https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/blob/master/geojson/ne_10m_admin_1_states_provinces.geojson Natural Earth is public domain. The retained extract is scripts/liberia-counties-source.geojson. The source's temporary LR-X1~ and LR-X2~ identifiers are normalized to ISO codes LR-GP (Gbarpolu) and LR-RG (River Gee); the Gbarpolu spelling uses the source's English name. County capitals and learning notes are retained in scripts/liberia-counties.json. The game uses generalized boundaries, not a cadastral or legal boundary survey. Waters Seven rivers: Mano, Lofa, Saint Paul, Saint John, Cestos, Cavalla and Mesurado. The eighth feature is Lake Piso, a coastal lagoon, including its mapped islands. River courses extend beyond Liberia where mapped; they are not clipped at the country boundary. Upper-reach names include Zeliba (Mano), Diani (Saint Paul), Mani (Saint John) and Nuon (Cestos). Lofa is also spelled Loffa; Cavalla is also called Cavally. The Mesurado feature is its available lower river and estuary. Its generalization differs from NE, leaving an alignment gap of about 0.6 km between the retained source lines. No artificial connecting line is added. River endpoints reflect available source mapping and are not assertions of surveyed springs or every estuary channel. Retained source geometry and licences: scripts/liberia-water-source.geojson. Per-feature source way/relation IDs, the extract query, source hashes and method are recorded there and in scripts/liberia-map-source-metadata.json. The data is simplified at 0.0001 degrees (roughly 11 m). Public map files retain codes, names, kinds and geometry. OSM-derived data is available under ODbL 1.0. Quiz review Nineteen read-time wording corrections retain lesson IDs, question IDs and progress. They clarify the ACS settlement context, the Accra peace agreement, Kolokwa, cultural diversity, ship registration, rainforest protection, the UNESCO Nimba property, dry rice and coastal geography. They remove unsupported hotel/plantation superlatives and fixed identity percentages. The original eighty questions remain in scripts/fixtures/liberia-facts-questions.json; no seed runs. Photographs Reuse Worldly's existing ten Liberia photographs and their source-page credits. No new licensing claim is made. Captions describe what the photographs show: the food image is a market, and the nature image is Kpatawee Falls. The page banner shows Monrovia from Providence Island.
