Lesotho guide: sources and attribution Prepared 2 November 2026 Country, history, geography, politics, people and economy overview: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sotho_language https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildlife_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuisine_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basotho_blanket https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mokorotlo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesotho_Highlands_Water_Project District articles used for the map notes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maseru_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butha-Buthe_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leribe_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berea_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafeteng_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohale%27s_Hoek_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quthing_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qacha%27s_Nek_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mokhotlong_District https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thaba-Tseka_District Districts and national outline: OCHA Common Operational Dataset, Lesotho subnational administrative boundaries (COD-AB, from FAO and the Lesotho Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs, 2016 data, published 2019), published on HDX, CC BY-IGO: https://data.humdata.org/dataset/cod-ab-lso The ten first-level units are the districts. The HDX record notes that the district codes are unusually alphabetical (LSA to LSK), so the guide uses the ISO 3166-2 style codes LS-A to LS-K. The polygons are simplified together so that shared borders stay aligned, and the national outline is their union. Boundaries are generalized educational references. Rivers and reservoirs: OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0, extracted from the OpenStreetMap API on 2 November 2026 (the Overpass servers did not answer, so the relations and named ways were fetched directly and clipped to the national outline plus a two-kilometer margin): https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright Selected: Senqu River (the Orange River in Lesotho), Caledon River (Mohokare), Makhaleng River, Senqunyane River, Maletsunyane River and Malibamatšo River, with the Katse Reservoir and the Mohale Reservoir. Courses can contain gaps and the extract may omit short sections. The Caledon is drawn where it forms the border. Not navigation data. Names are checked against Wikipedia's list of rivers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rivers_of_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_River https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caledon_River https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makhaleng_River https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senqunyane_River https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malibamat%C5%A1o_River https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katse_Dam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohale_Dam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maletsunyane_Falls City coordinates: OpenStreetMap place nodes, cross-checked against Wikipedia coordinate references where the articles give one, and against the district polygons. Pins mark approximate settlement centers, not municipal boundaries. City facts come from the Wikipedia articles for each place: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maseru https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teyateyaneng https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hlotse https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maputsoe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butha-Buthe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafeteng https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohale%27s_Hoek https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quthing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qacha%27s_Nek https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mokhotlong https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thaba-Tseka https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roma,_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morija https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semonkong https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazenod,_Lesotho https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mapoteng Sights: Wikipedia articles and coordinate references for each sight, checked against the national outline. Thaba Bosiu, Thabana Ntlenyana, the Letšeng diamond mine and the Morija Museum and Archives are OpenStreetMap points.
