Twelve curated settlement centres are retained in scripts/haiti-map-places.json. Run node scripts/build-haiti-map.mjs to rebuild assets, pack and place names offline. The map is a learning aid, not a boundary survey or travel route. Natural Earth represents national land including major offshore islands, not department borders. Most city centres were checked against English Wikipedia summary coordinates; Port-de-Paix and Miragoâne use approximate published town-centre coordinates. Coastline generalisation puts Cap-Haïtien, Port-de-Paix and Jérémie respectively about 1.09, 0.83 and 0.93 km outside the outline. Their correct locations are retained; tests allow a 1.1 km coastline margin only for those three centres. Sights identify monuments or explicitly representative city/island locations. They are not entrances or assurances of current access. Navassa is omitted. PHOTOGRAPHS The banner and ten topic images reuse local Haitian Creole photographs. Each image keeps its author, licence, source URL and descriptive alt text in src/lib/american-speak-heroes.json; all are served from /images/speak/haitian-creole/. These landscape photographs illustrate the country, not necessarily the topic's specific food, language or person. They are not evidence of current conditions.
